1. Who we are
GuitarManac ("we", "our", or "us") is a website for learning guitar at guitarmanac.app. A private individual based in Norway runs it and is the data controller. This policy covers the website. The mobile app has its own privacy policy.
2. Data we collect
2.1 Your account
You can use the free parts of GuitarManac without an account. When you sign up, our login provider Clerk collects:
- Your email address and name
- Your password, which Clerk stores hashed. We never see it.
- Your Google email and profile name, if you sign up with Google
When you sign up we also ask a few onboarding questions: your guitar level, how often you practice, your goals and how you found us. The answers are optional.
Clerk also keeps a short note on your account of what led you to sign up, such as a finished lesson, and a mark that we have counted the sign-up in our analytics.
2.2 Things you create
- Your songbook: song titles, artists, notes and links you add
- Your practice log: minutes, tags and optional notes
- Feedback you send us, with the page you sent it from. If you are signed in, we store your user ID with it.
Your songbook and practice log are private to your account.
2.3 Progress we record
As you use the app, we save:
- Which learning path lessons you have finished
- Which songs, drills and practices you have played, and when
- Daily practice minutes, which drive your streak and stats
- Game scores, XP and your character
2.4 Purchases
Lemon Squeezy sells GuitarManac Pro as the merchant of record and handles payment. It collects your card details and billing address. We never see them. Lemon Squeezy sends us your name, email, plan, price, subscription status and renewal or trial end dates, so we can unlock Pro for your account. When you start a checkout, we send Lemon Squeezy your user ID and the name of the Pro feature that led you there, and it sends both back with the purchase.
2.5 Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It records the page, the referring site, your country, browser, operating system and device type. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not identify you or follow you across sites.
We also count a few actions the same way, without your name, email or user ID:
- Which buttons you press on the home page, and the campaign tags in the link you arrived from
- That a new account was created, and what led to it
- Which Pro features you tried to open, and whether you went on to checkout or bought Pro
- Which lessons you finish, and which songs, drills and jam tracks you start and finish
- Whether the tuner got microphone access. Never any sound.
- That you sent feedback, and from which kind of page
- Which level you picked in the questions on the Learn page, or that you skipped them
We see these only as totals, such as "40 people finished lesson 3", never as one person's history.
2.6 Stored in your browser
Clerk sets cookies to keep you signed in. If you answer the questions on the Learn page, GuitarManac keeps your answers in a cookie for a year, so it can suggest courses without an account. GuitarManac also stores some things in your browser's local storage so the app works the way you left it: player settings such as guitar and click volume, your best drill scores, recently opened pages, tips you have already seen, and lessons you finished before signing up, until they are saved to your account. The site also saves its own files in your browser so it can open offline. None of this is used for analytics or sent to anyone. You can clear it in your browser settings.
2.7 Microphone
The tuner and Note Blitz ask for microphone access to hear your guitar. Your browser processes the sound on your device to detect the pitch. We never record, store or send any audio. You can deny access and use everything else.
3. How we use your data
- To sign you in and keep your account secure
- To save your progress, songbook, practice log, streak and stats
- To unlock Pro features you paid for
- To read your feedback and fix what you report
- To see which pages and features people use, so we know what to improve
Under the GDPR, we process account, progress and purchase data to provide the service you signed up for. We process analytics, onboarding answers and feedback based on our legitimate interest in improving GuitarManac.
We do not sell your data, show ads or use your data for advertising.
4. Services we share data with
We share data only with services that run GuitarManac:

Each service handles data under its own privacy policy.
5. Storage and security
Your data lives in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Neon in the EU (Frankfurt, eu-central-1). All traffic to GuitarManac uses HTTPS. Every request that reads or changes your data must carry a valid Clerk session.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account exists. To delete your account and all its data, email contact@frode.dev. We delete it within 30 days. Lemon Squeezy keeps its own order records for as long as tax law requires.
Feedback sent without an account has no user ID, so we cannot link it to you or find it on request.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR and Norwegian data protection law, you can ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correct data that is wrong
- Delete your data
- Send your data to you in a machine-readable format
- Limit how we process your data
- Stop processing data we hold on legitimate interest
Email contact@frode.dev and we reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).
8. Children
GuitarManac is not meant for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has given us data, email contact@frode.dev and we will delete it.
9. Transfers outside the EU
Clerk, Vercel and Lemon Squeezy are US companies and may process data outside the EU/EEA. They use Standard Contractual Clauses or similar safeguards for these transfers.
10. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your data, we tell you in the app or by email first.
